Round 5 of the ATV Motocross National Championship series rolled into Pleasure Valley, PA this past weekend with expectations that the racing would be excellent as Team EVS rider Chad Wienen and rival Joel Hetrick had battled back and forth all season, exchanging wins and the points lead several times. The racing did not disappoint in the first moto as Hetrick and Wienen were 1-2 after the first lap of moto 1. Wienen was pressuring Hetrick the majority of the moto until about lap 8 when Hetrick suffered a mechanical failure with his machine. Wienen would go on to take the win in Moto 1 while Hetrick had to be towed back to the pits.
Moto 2 of the Pleasure Valley National started off well for Wienen as he came around lap 1 with the lead. By lap 4, a motivated Hetrick had caught up to Wienen as they had pulled away from the rest of the field. Hetrick made the move around Wienen and rode on to take the Moto 2 win, while Wienen brought it home in second place, knowing he would take the overall win on the day.
With the overall victory on the day, Wienen took over the overall points lead and holds a 7-point advantage over Hetrick as the series moves towards Red Bud, a long time ‘favorite’ race of the year for Wienen.
