Multi time champions in any sport are often asked what was more difficult…winning the first championship and getting over the hump or having to defend your championship and win two or more championships in a row. The answer is almost unanimous in that successfully defending your title is more difficult than winning the first one.
At SLC 7, the finale of the 2020 Monster Energy Supercross season, Chase Sexton rode a near perfect race in the tumultuous East/West Showdown, a race known for chaotic finishes that can wreak havoc on the final points standings in the 250 class. Despite having a small cushion of a six point lead going into the race, Chase took no risks and proceeded to nail the restart of main event and check out from the rest of the field, winning the final race of year and adding the ‘cherry on top’ to an incredible season where he ended with five wins total.
HUGE congratulations to Chase, his team and his family on a tremendous 2020 Supercross season! Chase will be moving to the HRC Factory Team during the upcoming Nationals season and will be competing in the 450 class. Photo credits go to Steve Giberson with Vital MX.
